Dis:Course is a project supporting groups concerned with disability and long-term health issues in Berkshire and the surrounding area. We also provide an information service to disabled people, their families and carers.
If you need any help or advice with anything to do with disability call our helpline on (01344) 755528.
This project was developed as there is clearly a need; a number of disability related organisations have received large funding cuts which has affected their capacity to provide ‘hands on’ support for small groups.
Dis:Course recieves calls on a variety of issues from disabled people, their carers and professionals. These calls can vary from simple queries such as how to apply for a disabled parking badge to long term help and support to appeal a Disability Living Allowance decision.
Our database that includes information from business, community, voluntary sector, and many other organisations and has been redeveloped and expanded so that disabled people and their carers now have a comprehensive resource which allows them to make informed choices about how they want to live their life.
This is very important as Personalisation allows disabled people to build and tailor their provision of care and activities to suit their own needs. Our database can help people decide which organisations and services best suit their needs.
The difference with our database is that the services are checked for good practice in the areas of Protection of Vulnerable Adults and Disability Awareness, as unless organisations are providing care or receiving certain funding streams these areas are often hard to check.
